Sea Prince and the Fire Child
Home/Change Series
In 1981, Sanrio Co., Ltd. released the animated feature "Sea Prince and the Fire Child" (Shiriusu no densetsu) as a retelling of the original story by Shintaro Tsuji, Sanrio's founder. It is considered to be a loose adaptation of Romeo and Juliet, but also firmly inspired by the "Nutcracker Suite" faeries in Disney's 1940 film "Fantasia". In this story, the children of the gods of fire and water fall in love and fight to stay together in the face of adversity. As with most Sanrio feature films, only a select number of cels were officially sold to market from this lesser-known classic.
