   Home/Change Series

For many little girls, My Little Pony became more than a colorful line of toy ponies when Hasbro released the first direct-to-video animated pilot in 1984. Produced at Toei Animation for Marvel, the pilot was controversially dark yet it nevertheless gave the little ponies a believable world and vivid personalities. The studio would oversee one more project before co-production began with Sunbow Productions, who re-developed the animated ponies for two seasons and a feature-length film. Early production artwork from the toyline's commercials alludes to the original vision and is notoriously rare.
