"Step down, lady! You are free!"
Schmendrick the magician has just freed the unicorn from her cage at Mommy Fortuna’s carnival. The spell on the unicorn disperses as she leaps out of the cage and she shimmers in the moonlight. In the book, Schmendrick exclaims in awe of her but she does not notice him. For a brief moment, she is home in her forest, which is black and wet and ruined because she had been gone so long.
The background is an original and un-matching, from an earlier scene where Mommy Fortuna finds the unicorn asleep. There is a beautiful sequence mate in Sazen's gallery.
